Best Disc Golf Basket (2026): 8 Portable Baskets Compared by Chains and Weight

The best disc golf basket for backyard practice depends on how you’ll use it: how hard you putt, where it will live and how often you’ll carry it. Most portable disc golf baskets look alike in photos. The real differences are chain weight, total weight, height and whether the listing backs up its “PDGA approved” claim. We compared eight baskets, from a 26.5-inch mini to a 42-pound heavy-duty target, so you can pick one for your yard, garage or tailgate.

How we evaluated these baskets

We didn’t set up eight baskets in one yard for this article. We read each Amazon listing, including the spec tables, checked stock and ratings on Amazon (US, ZIP 10001) in October 2026, and compared chain count and weight, total weight, height, setup and any PDGA claim.

What should you look for in a disc golf basket?

Short answer: compare chain count and chain weight, total weight, height and anchoring, then decide how often you’ll move it.

  • Chain count: the MVP, Axiom and Remix baskets use 24 chains in two rings of 12; the Yaheetech has 12 and the HIAARO 16.
  • Chain weight: MVP labels its chains “heavy-duty, course weighted” or “light-duty, practice weighted.” The Pro, Pro HD and Axiom list course-weighted chains; the Lite and Remix list practice-weighted chains. We haven’t tested how each one catches.
  • Total weight: heavier is harder to carry; for stability, look at the base and anchoring too, not weight alone. Our picks run from 11.6 to 42 pounds.
  • Stakes: the MVP, Axiom, Yaheetech and HIAARO listings include three ground stakes, which help on grass in wind.

Is your disc golf basket really PDGA approved?

Short answer: only if it’s on the PDGA’s approved list. Phrases like “built to PDGA height and size regulations” are not the same as approval.

The PDGA publishes its approved targets on its Technical Standards pages. Of our picks, only the HIAARO listing gives a certification number (23-47) and an approval date (March 18, 2024). We couldn’t open the PDGA site to confirm that entry, so check it yourself if approval matters to you. The Remix listing says it’s built to standard PDGA height and size, which isn’t the same claim. For informal backyard practice, approval may not matter much; if it does for your use, check the PDGA list and any event requirements.

1. MVP Black Hole Pro 24-Chain: best disc golf basket overall

Bottom line: a 24-chain portable basket with heavy-duty, course-weighted chains, all-metal construction and three optional ground stakes, per the listing. At 33 pounds and 52 inches, it’s the middle ground between the Lite and the HD.

It comes in six pieces (base, lower pole, cage, upper pole, chain rack and top cap), and MVP says it assembles in under a minute. It had 4,141 ratings at 4.8 stars when we checked on October 10, 2026, the most of our picks.

Limitation: 33 pounds is a lot to carry to a park often. It’s in the premium tier.

Who this is NOT for: players who put carrying weight first. The HIAARO weighs less than half as much.

2. MVP Black Hole Pro HD: best heavy-duty portable basket

Bottom line: the heaviest basket here at 42 pounds, and the tallest of the MVP line at 53.5 inches, per MVP’s spec table, with the same 24 heavy-duty chains as the Pro.

It’s the heaviest model we compared, and it includes the same three ground stakes. That makes it the one to look at if the basket will mostly stay put in your yard.

Limitation: it’s the heaviest full-size model here and had the highest card price of our picks when we checked.

Who this is NOT for: anyone who wants a lighter basket to carry. Check the packed size against your car if you’ll move it.

3. MVP Black Hole Lite: best lighter 24-chain basket

Bottom line: the Lite keeps 24 chains and the 52-inch height, with light-duty, practice-weighted chains and a listed weight of 26 pounds, per the spec table.

Like the Pro, it breaks down into six pieces and includes three ground stakes. It had more than 1,400 ratings when we checked.

Limitation: its chains are listed as practice-weighted rather than the Pro’s course-weighted; we haven’t tested how differently they catch.

Who this is NOT for: anyone who specifically wants chains listed as course-weighted. Look at the Pro or Pro HD.

4. Axiom Discs Pro 24-Chain: best Black Hole Pro alternative

Bottom line: on paper, the Axiom Pro matches the Black Hole Pro: 24 heavy-duty, course-weighted chains, 33 pounds and 52 inches, per its spec table. Its listing bullets are nearly word for word the same as the Black Hole Pro’s, apart from the name.

If the listed specs are what matter to you, buy whichever is cheaper or comes in the color you want. Axiom’s version comes in colors like light blue, and it had more than 1,900 ratings when we checked.

Limitation: it showed “only 11 left in stock” on the color we checked, so availability may vary by color.

Who this is NOT for: anyone looking for a lighter weight or a different chain type than the Black Hole Pro; its listed specs match.

5. Yaheetech 12-Chain: best budget basket

Bottom line: the lowest-priced full-size basket among those with a card price when we checked in October 2026. It has 12 galvanized chains, a 25.2-inch (64 cm) basket, a top flag and three ground stakes, and weighs 18.9 pounds, per the listing.

  • Thoughtful Details: This disc golf basket features a sizable 64 cm / 25.2″ basket designed to catch and store discs with…

The listing says it collapses flat for storage. It had 3,113 ratings when we checked on October 10, 2026.

Limitation: it has 12 chains, half the count of the 24-chain picks. The listing doesn’t give the basket height in its bullets.

Who this is NOT for: anyone who specifically wants a 24-chain, two-ring layout.

6. Remix Deluxe 24-Chain: best 24-chain practice basket

Bottom line: 24 zinc-coated chains in two rings of 12, a 1.25-inch visibility band and no-tool assembly, per the listing. The listing says it weighs 34 pounds and is built to standard PDGA height and size.

Its spec table lists light-duty, practice-weighted chains, and it had more than 1,500 ratings when we checked.

Limitation: the card didn’t show a price when we checked; see the listing. “Built to PDGA height and size” isn’t the same as being on the PDGA’s approved list.

Who this is NOT for: players who want heavy-duty chains. Its chains are practice-weighted.

7. HIAARO 16-Chain Portable: best foldable basket to carry

Bottom line: a foldable, umbrella-style basket that weighs 14.6 pounds and shrinks to 25 inches in its carry bag, per the listing. It’s the lightest full-size basket we compared.

The listing gives a PDGA certification number (23-47) and approval date, uses 16 zinc-coated chains, and includes three ground spikes. The basket fabric is UV-resistant, per the listing.

Limitation: it has 16 chains, not 24, and it had about 210 ratings when we checked, far fewer than the MVP baskets. It uses fabric in its umbrella-style design rather than an all-metal basket.

Who this is NOT for: anyone who specifically wants a heavier, all-metal design.

8. MVP Black Hole Mini: best for kids and indoor play

Bottom line: a 26.5-inch mini basket with 24 chains, built for mini disc golf discs and markers, per the listing. It’s intended for mini discs and markers, which makes it a family or indoor target.

  • 24 CHAINS – Designed for a realistic catching experience in a mini-golf style of play.
  • QUICK ASSEMBLY – Assemble or disassembles in under a minute.
  • STURDY – All-Metal construction with a unique threaded tension connection design.

It’s all metal, weighs 11.6 pounds, and MVP says it sets up in under a minute.

Limitation: it’s sized for mini discs, so full-size putters won’t fit the way they do in a real basket.

Who this is NOT for: anyone who wants a target sized for standard putters. Get a full-size basket.

How to choose a disc golf basket

Where will it live?

If it stays in the yard, the heavier Pro HD or Pro are worth a look. If you’ll carry it around, the HIAARO (14.6 lb) or Lite (26 lb) weigh less.

What chains do you want?

The Pro, Pro HD and Axiom list 24 course-weighted chains. The Lite and Yaheetech had lower card prices than the Pro when we checked, and the Remix also uses 24 practice-weighted chains.

Do you need PDGA approval?

If approval matters for how you’ll use it, check the PDGA’s approved list rather than the product title.

Will it stand on your ground?

On grass, use the ground stakes. On a patio or deck, where stakes won’t work, check the base design and weight.

Black Friday tip: a basket is a big gift for a disc golfer. US Bing search estimates for “disc golf basket” were about 830 in November 2025 and 750 in December 2025, close to the 770 average we found, with a peak of about 990 in June 2026. Check the current price on each listing and the delivery date if it’s a gift.
